The Peasant Prince Audition
Monkey Baa will be holding auditions at ARA Darling Quarter Theatre in Sydney from the 11th-13th October 2023 for the 2024 National tour of our production, Li Cunxin’s The Peasant Prince.
The Peasant Prince tells the rags to riches true story of a Chinese peasant boy, Li Cunxin, who at the age of ten was plucked from millions of other students across China to be trained as a ballet dancer. Li controversially defected to the USA from China and went onto to become of the world’s greatest dancers.

Who are we looking for:
We are looking for four (4) actors of CHINESE DESCENT over the age of 21 years.
ACTOR 1: Cunxin – Male or Male Identifying.
ACTOR 2: Niang, Gao, Clare – Female or Female Identifying.
ACTOR 3: Dia,Teacher Xiao and various roles. Male or Male Identifying.
ACTOR 4: Bandit, Cunfar and various roles. Male or Male Identifying.
All auditionees must:
Must be strictly Sydney based with a current Sydney address
Be aged anywhere above the age of 21
Hold a full driver’s license. This is a strict requirement
Must be double-dose vaccinated for Covid-19 or hold a valid written medical exemption
Audition Details:
Auditions are in person from the 11th-13th October 2023 at the ARA Darling Quarter Theatre. Self-tapes will not be accepted. Each performer auditioning must be available for call backs on the 13th October.
If successful for a call back, performers will participate in a group audition that will incorporate a physical component with the Movement Director. Performers should wear clothes and shoes that they can move in. We anticipate the group session, combining text and movement, may run up to for 75 mins.

First Sydney season 4th – 8th May 2024
Sydney seasons 9th-22nd May 2024
First part of tour 23rd May – 22nd June 2024
Unpaid break 24th June – 15th July 2024
Second part of tour 16th July – 25th September 2024
FEES:
$1,300.00 per week for rehearsals and $1,350.00 per week for performance, plus all travel, allowances, 11% superannuation and annual leave. This is a No Sunday PCA Engagement. Engagement is split into two contracts with a 3 week unpaid break.
